Rasta Thomas was a black belt in Martial arts by the age of 5. From there he became trained in classical ballet at the prestigious Kirov Academy in Washington DC under the direction of Oleg Vinagrodov. Shortly after he made ballet history by winning gold medals at the International Ballet Competitions in Varna, Bulgaria and Jackson, Mississippi. Some of his professional company credits include Le Juenne Ballet de France, Tulsa Ballet, Hartford Ballet, National Ballet of China, Viktor Ullyate in Spain, Complexions, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Lar Lubovitch, Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Company, Orlando Ballet,
Washington Ballet, K Ballet, Inoue Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem, American Ballet Theater and the Kirov Ballet (Marinsky) of St Petersburg Russian.
Works he has danced include Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Swan Lake, Gisselle, Nutrcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Balanchine's "Apollo" & "Prodigal Son", Twyla Tharp's "Movin' Out". Debbie Allen's "Pepito's Story" "Soul Possessed" & "Pearl", Ulysses Dove "Front Porch of Heaven", Jerry Mitchell's "I'm Your Man", Rob Ashford's "Carmen" and Jerome Robbins' "Fancy Free". He was the resident director of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles and is currently the director Showbiz National Talent Competition and "Bad Boys of Dance".
